Gboard by Google is pre-installed on most Android smartphones (Samsung, Xiaomi, Realme, OnePlus) and provides robust Kannada speech and transliteration input.
1. Open Gboard Settings
Open any app where you can type (like Messages). Tap the gear icon (Settings) on the top bar of your keyboard.
2. Add Kannada Language
Tap Languages → Add Keyboard. Search for Kannada and select Kannada (India).
3. Select ABC → ಕನ್ನಡ (Phonetic Layout)
Choose the ABC → ಕನ್ನಡ layout. This enables typing English letters to produce Kannada script.
