Apple iOS supports native system-wide Kannada typing through its built-in transliteration keyboard. This step-by-step guide walks you through setting up native Kannada input on iOS 17 and iOS 18 devices.

Step 1: Open iOS Settings

On your iPhone or iPad home screen, open Settings, scroll down and tap on General, then tap Keyboard.

Step 2: Add New Kannada Keyboard

Tap Keyboards at the top, then select Add New Keyboard.... In the search bar at the top, type Kannada.

Step 3: Select Transliteration Mode

Select Kannada from the list. You will see two layout options: Standard and Transliteration. Choose Transliteration to enable English-to-Kannada phonetic typing.

Step 4: Start Typing in WhatsApp or Safari

Open any application like WhatsApp or Messages. Tap and hold the Globe icon at the bottom left of your keyboard to switch to the Kannada keyboard. Type "namaskara" and select "ನಮಸ್ಕಾರ" from the suggestion bar above the keyboard.
